About The Learning Station Curriculum

Toddlers are active, curious learners and are fascinated by the world around them.  Given the opportunity, these youngsters explore relationships between objects, investigate properties, and test things over and over again.  How remarkable it is to watch the wonder in discovering things for the first time or see the determination when skills are practiced over and over again!  The acquisition of language alone is incredible.

The Learning Station curriculum is a discovery-based learning experience focusing on basic concepts and skills through hands-on activities and experiences.  We provide a safe and nurturing place where children can learn social and intellectual skills.  In planning my curriculum I draw from my training and experience with Parents as Teachers and The Creative Curriculum as I keep in mind these four developmental domains:

1. Language
2. Perceptual and Motor
3. Cognitive

4. Social-Emotional

A variety of fun, age-appropriate activities are incorporated to give children the opportunity to grow in all developmental areas.  As a teacher I facilitate learning through play, the most suitable approach for young children’s learning, although learning can also take place at any time of the day such as snack time or as the result of a conflict.

About Samantha

My name is Samantha and I LOVE teaching young children!  Watching their joy of discovering the world around them is unlike anything else.  It is my goal to help children keep their natural curiosity while providing a safe and caring environment where they feel valued.

My education began 18 years ago while I earned my associates degree in Professional Preschool Education from Ricks College.  Since then I've worked in day cares and preschools and earned my bachelors degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood.  I've also substituted and taught at the elementary school level.  My recent positions have included Preschool Coordinator for Basic Beginnings where I was trained in the Creative Curriculum for Preschoolers, and later I worked as a Parent Educator for the Parent Education Network.  In that position I was trained in the Parents as Teachers curriculum and the Denver II developmental screening for children birth to 6.

When my second child was born I decided to stay home.  My passion for teaching children still burns strong so I began The Learning Station to give toddlers a chance to practice being social and experience learning in a small group setting. We will soon be growing into a preschool to prepare for Kindergarten.
